Hello AACF,
Just thought I’d share some thoughts on our most current fad within the fellowship. As you can see by the title of this post, there has been an issue with all the chanting and the wooting. I notice that we now love to chant and woot to goad people on. But why are we doing this? What is the purpose? Why is it that we only partake in this when no one else is around? Should we not be ashamed of freely expressing ourselves?
For example, the other day, a particular someone in the fellowship, (I will refer to her as MicheMiche) started to chant very softly out in front of GBC. We were going to go and get some boba and Sun Hong Kong and I told him/her that I would pay for his/her drink if she would loudly chant “Sun Hong Kong” down Sproul. MicheMiche refused entirely and said that it simply “wasn’t worth it.” But how is it not worth it? We do it all the time within ourselves, but should we be silent in our personal expression?
I think not! In fact, we should outwardly show ourselves in our expression. We may be judged by others but who cares about what other people think, the only judgment that has any merit is the one we face from God. AND THINK! if we were to make a fool of ourselves in public, think of how such a good segway you could make that into a small instance of outreach, you can simply say “It’s something my fellowship has started to do for fun. I go to Asian American Christian Fellowship.” Think of how that is such a great conversation starter! People will flock to you, or at least talk about you from afar, but again, WHO CARES WHAT PEOPLE THINK!
Just a couple of cents.
And thanks to Alyssa and her awesome stories that spurred this all on.
