Welcome back to a new semester! It’s unfortunate that the first week started out with so much rain, but it’s exciting to return to see God continue His work on the campus.
This year, our theme is Growing Deeper in our understanding of the gospel from God’s grace to our brokenness, and the practice of the gospel. Long sentence short, we want to truly understand the gospel and live it out.
After the first semester, leadership got together to seek and pray about how God has been working in the fellowship. God’s definitely been growing the fellowship in community and deeper friendships. However, we also noticed other core values that we may not have been meeting as a fellowship and they are areas of prayer, outreach, and teaching. For this coming spring semester, we are excited to continue to grow in our community along with focusing on the areas of prayer, outreach, and teaching.
Prayer. In terms of prayer, we definitely want to pray more as a group of believers and seek God first. It’s easier said than done. But we’re going to make better attempts in making prayer more of a priority in our lives. We’ll be setting aside more time to pray in Large Groups and Small Groups. In addition, we’ll be continuing our outreach prayer meetings led by Briana. We understand that praying isn’t just about doing more of it and checking it off the to-do list, but we hope that by praying more together, we’ll develop a culture of prayer in our own individual lives.
Outreach. God calls us to be witnesses and to share the gospel. This semester, we really hope that we can see each person in the fellowship grow in their heart for outreach whether that’s verbally sharing the gospel or simply sharing the gospel through loving actions. In addition, we hope that we’ll be able to do more outreach events corporately. An example of this may be handing out socks to the homeless and praying over them. Whether we may be doing outreach corporately or individually, we really hope that God will grow us to see that every moment of our lives is an opportunity to outreach and love those around us.
Teaching. This semester leadership has decided to make our Large Group theme about the bigger theme of the gospel. It’s correct to think of the gospel as Jesus Christ coming to earth, dying on the cross, and rising three days later. However, we realize that, that is only a slice of a larger picture of the gospel story. We realize there are four major themes of Christianity: Creation, the fall, redemption, and restoration. We hope that by understanding this larger theme, we’ll get a larger perspective of who God is. Join us at Large Group every Thursday night at 6:30pm as we discuss about creation, the fall, redemption, and restoration!
